Do you have extra fullness beneath your chin? Maybe it's something you've had your whole life, something that developed over the years, or something you noticed recently. This is a condition called submental fullness, which some people refer to as "double chin."
Before we start, let's get it straight, there is nothing wrong with under-chin fat. It is entirely normal and common. We understand that it can shake up confidence for some. We get that! At Alora Wellness & Spa, we have a solution for stubborn double chins!
What's the Secret?
There are many different methods for getting rid of under-the-chin fat, but what works? What's the secret? Liposuction vs. KYBELLA®. What are they? Which one could be your ticket to finding lost confidence?
About KYBELLA®:
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
In 2015, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery held a consumer survey to see how many individuals were irritated by unwanted or excess under-chin fat. Around 67% were bothered by the presence of a double chin. If you're looking for something safe that proves results in treating under-the-chin fat, KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable.
Why KYBELLA®?
KYBELLA® is fantastic if you're looking for quick recovery, short prep time, nonsurgical, and quick results. If you're interested in a nonsurgical way to reduce submental fullness, also known as double chin, KYBELLA® may be right for you. KYBELLA® is a first-of-its-kind injectable treatment for adults with submental fullness that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile. KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin to improve your profile. KYBELLA® can also be used to destroy fat cells in the jaw, creating a slimming effect. KYBELLA® is an excellent alternative to plastic surgery to remove a double chin.
KYBELLA®: Pain and Price?
On average, many people undergo up to five different sessions. The injections reportedly are more uncomfortable than botox or filler, but still a very doable process. Recovery time is minimal and only requires a few over-the-counter medications.
KYBELLA® costs $600 per vial (2-3 vials are required per appointment). It is recommended to have three treatments for optimal results (more may be required). After the initial treatment, get $100 off every prepaid vial.
*Patient must be evaluated and deemed a proper candidate for this procedure.
About Liposuction:
Only want to schedule one treatment and be done? Liposuction may be a better option for you. For instance, as mentioned, liposuction only requires around one session. As the name suggests, the process involves sucking unwanted fat from under the chin or other target areas.
Although liposuction requires fewer treatments and can get rid of more fat in one sitting, the risks of liposuction are increasingly higher, and downtime is no joke. For up to 6 months, patients can experience swelling and bruising. Although your recovery may only be a few days, you are still limited to various activities until you fully recover.
Liposuction: Pain and Price?
Despite it being a surgical process, liposuction is usually a pain-free experience. During the surgery, patients are sedated and given anesthesia. Even afterward, during recovery, it is a more uncomfortable feeling rather than a painful one. Accurateaesthetics.com furthers this by saying, "the sensation is not painful, but it is soreness, similar to what you would feel the day after an intense workout."
The price is hard to pinpoint for liposuction as it depends significantly on the doctor, location, etc. You want to be sure you have someone who knows what they are doing and is a well-known specialist with good reviews. The better the specialist, the more you will pay, but this is always highly advised as the risks for most surgical procedures carry immense risk. In some circumstances, a doctor might prescribe oral pain medication if need be, but overall the discomfort lasts much longer than KYBELLA®. The normal range for liposuction is between $1,500-$5,000. Keep in mind although it is a surgical procedure, normally, insurance will also not cover liposuction.
